Fords claim top two spots in 3,000 at Lafayette-Rider Invite

NEW YORK – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team grabbed two first-place finishes as it competed in the college division of the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games Invitational on Friday at the Armory track in New York City.

Junior Andrea Tocci ran to a first-place finish in the 3,000 meter run with a career-best time of 10 minutes, 31.51 seconds, currently the sixth-fastest time in the Centennial Conference this season, while senior Alice Vienneau followed behind with a season-best time of 10:34.01 for second place. Senior Kaitlyn Shank's career-best effort earned a ninth-place finish.

Determined to make her senior year a memorable one, Kylie Lipinski registered a career-best indoor leap of 11.52 meters (37 feet, 9.5 inches) in the triple jump, the best mark in the conference this season, which earned her a second-place finish at the meet. The jump surpassed the previous team record of 11.09m (36-4.75). Lipinski also took eighth in the long jump (4.94m/16-2.5) while freshman Carolyn Oehrig's collegiate-best leap of 4.92m (16-1.75) was good for ninth.

Continuing a strong start to her collegiate career, freshman Phoebe Miller's season-best time of 2:18.75, fast enough for second on the conference's performance list, claimed another first-place finish for the Fords in the 800m run.

Junior Hannah Davis and sophomore Flora Berklein also ran well as both registered career-best times. Davis placed seventh (1:01.10) in the 400 while Berklein grabbed eighth (18:36.61) in the 5,000.

Haverford had a strong showing in the mile as junior Sara Hess finished seventh with a time of 5:14.95 and sophomore Emily Scott followed closely behind in eighth with a career-best effort of 5:17.10.
