Freshmen make their mark at Keogh Invite

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track team benefitted from a strong showing by its freshman class Friday night at Alumni Field House in the final tune-up before the Centennial Conference championships next weekend.

Freshman Phoebe Miller placed first in the mile run with a collegiate-best time of 5 minutes, 11.53 seconds. This is the fastest time run by the Fords this season and currently sits third on the conference performance list. Sara Hess finished second with a season-best time of 5:12.93 as Haverford took nine of the top 10 spots in the event.

Kathryn Balmer, another first year performer making her mark this season, ran to a collegiate-best finish of 2:18.32 in the 800 meter run which currently ranks as the second-fastest in the Centennial this season.

Sophomore Mariah Braxton took first in the 200, finishing in 28.63 seconds, and junior Makeda Carroll, also running well, came in close behind (29.11).

Carson Wills had a strong showing in the 60m hurdles as her career-best effort of 10.57 was good for third place.

A pair of career indoor-best times highlighted the 3,000 as Emily Scott grabbed first in 10:50.16 and Liv Uddin's time of 11:20.56 led to a second-place finish.

Continuing the trend of impressive outings by freshmen, Robin Chernow's collegiate-best toss of 10.85 meters (35 feet, 7 1/4 inches) earned her a third place in the shot put. The distance moves Chernow up to eighth on the conference performance list.

Carolyn Oehrig, adding another impressive outing to the beginning of her collegiate career, tallied a pair of first-place finishes in the high jump and triple jump. Oehrig matched her collegiate-best effort clearing a height of 1.47m (4-9 3/4) while registering a leap of 9.98m (32-9) in the triple jump.

Showing her consistency, Kylie Lipinski took first in the long jump with a leap of 4.92m (16-1.75). Also performing well for the Fords was Emma Kornetsky, grabbing two second-place finishes, with season-best efforts in the long jump (4.77m/15-7 3/4) and triple jump (9.82m/32-2 3/4).

Haverford's relay teams had a great showing as both the 4x200 and 4x400 finished first with times of 1:49.79 and 4:06.31, respectively. Each of these times qualifies as the second-fastest in the Centennial this season.

Next up for the Fords is the Centennial Conference indoor championships held at Ursinus College next Saturday.
