COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - An array of career-best performances propelled the Haverford College women's indoor track & field team to a tie for second at the Centennial Conference 2013 Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday.

Accumulating 92 points overall, the Fords finished in a second-place tie with Muhlenberg College. Host Ursinus College was the next closest finisher with 77 points. Johns Hopkins University claimed the top spot with 231 points.

Fiona Hendry, the top seed in the 5,000 meter run, came through with a collegiate-best time of 17 minutes, 41.77 seconds to place first. Adding more points in the event, Kelley Riffenburgh's career-best time of 18:04.56 was good for third.

Hendry also shined in the 3,000 with a third-place finish of 10:15.69. Senior Sheera Rosenbaum rose to occasion with a career-best performance of 10:31.36 to place sixth.

A career-best performance of 5:01.50 in the mile by Katie Balmer delivered another third-place finish for Haverford and Balmer wasn't done there. The sophomore produced more points for the Fords' cause in the 800 meter run where Balmer, Nora Weathers and Katherine Greifeld finished in spots five through seven. Greifeld's time of 2:24.29 was a career-best effort.

Senior Hannah Davis, also running well, accounted for Haverford's other points on the track as her career-best time of 59.83 seconds in the 400 resulted in a second-place finish.

The Fords' relays had a strong day as the 4x200 team of Katie Bigay, Davis (pictured), Jade Andrade and Kimberly Carlomagno took third (1:51.41). Carlomagno and Davis teamed up again in the 4x400, with Sedona Murphy and Emma Kornetsky, to finish fourth.

The 4x800 squad of Emily Scott, Bridget Gibbons, Greifeld and Cara Keifer also placed fourth (9:39.90). Picking up the final points from the relay portion of the meet was the quartet of Keifer, Makeda Carroll, Gibbons and Scott with a third-place showing in the distance medley relay.

Senior Kornetsky led the effort off the track with a runner-up finish in both the long jump and triple jump. Just missing her career-best distance, Kornetsky delivered her mark of 5.11 meters (16 feet, 9.25 inches) in the long jump on her final attempt. She then duplicated her finish in the triple jump with a career-best performance of 10.78m (35-04.50).

Allison Guindon and Robin Chernow added a pair of seventh-place finishes in the pole vault and shot put, respectively. Registering a career-best of her own, Guindon cleared 2.75m (9-00.25).

Finally, Carolyn Oehrig placed eighth in the high jump to give the Fords another crucial point in the tightly-contested meet.

The second-place finish gave the Fords a point, and a 5-4 lead, in the contest for the Hood Trophy, the friendly competition between local rivals Haverford and Swarthmore College. The Garnet finished seventh with 39 points.

Some members of Haverford's team will return to Ursinus on March 1 to compete in the Last Chance Meet.
