Women's Indoor Track & Field Begins 2014-15 at Home

HAVERFORD, Pa. – After wrapping up the fall cross country season, there is little break for the distance runners as they join the jumpers, throwers and sprinters for the start of the 2014-15 Haverford College indoor track & field season. The second of three running seasons gets underway this Thursday with a home dual meet with Widener.

The Fords will be looking to jump back up the conference standings and the Centennial Conference coaches appear to believe that will be the case as Haverford was picked fifth in the preseason poll after finishing sixth at the Centennial's Indoor Championships last winter.

Highlighting the Fords' returnees for the indoor season are sophomore Brittany Steele and junior Nora Weathers. Steele was a named the Centennial Conference Outstanding Rookie after claiming both the 60-meter dash and 200 meter titles in the conference's indoor championship.

Steele ranked 51st in the country in the 60-mter dash at the end of the cross country season. She is currently the school record holder in the 60 meters, while ranking second in the 200. Weathers was third in the mile and fourth in the 800 a season ago. Weathers ranked 64th in the mile and 124 in the NCAA in the 800 meters at the conclusion of the last indoor season.

In the relays, the Fords turned in a top five performance in each of the four events during last year's Centennial Championship. The team's relay success was highlighted by third place finishes in the 4x400 and distance medley relay. Haverford's distance medley relay ranked 70th among all schools in NCAA Division III last season.

Women's indoor track & field will host four meets this season, including the 2015 Centennial Conference Championship. Thursday's meet against Widener will be the Fords only competition before breaking for the holiday season. The Fords will also host the McElligott Ivitational and Keogh Invitational during month of February.
