Four Champions for Women's Indoor in Season Debut

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Getting some early competition in before the winter break, the Haverford College women's indoor track & field team had four individuals win their respective events on Thursday evening during a dual meet against Widener University. No team scores were kept at this meet.

The Fords were particularly successful in the distance races. Freshman Nicole Giannetti won the mile run in a field of six Fords. Giannetti finished in a time of 5:26.55. Katie Sullivan and Amelia Keyser-Gibson rounded out the top three in that event. Katherine Greifeld also won the 800 meters in a time of 2:26.08.

Haverford also found success in the sprints and hurdles with freshman Mairead Ferry also winning her collegiate track debut in a time of 9.14. She edged out Carolyn Oehrig and Amy Zamora for the top spot. Ferry was also second in the 55-meter dash, while Oehrig was second in the 200 meters and added a third place finish in the long jump.

The Fords' fourth title of the evening came from senior Robin Chernow in the shot put. Chernow, who currently ranks fourth on the school's all-time performance list in the event, nearly eclipsed her career best, but still finished first overall with a throw of 11.29 meters. Freshman Claire Sargent finished second in the event.

Women's indoor track & field will now break for the holidays. The schedule resumes with a newly scheduled meet on Friday, January 16 at the Armory with the New York City Gotham Cup.
