Women's Indoor Track & Field Sweeps Centennial's Weekly Honors

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team swept the Centennial Conference weekly honors with both the track & field athletes of the week. Nora Weathers earned the recognition for her efforts on the track, while Claire Sargent earned the field award for her win in the shot put during this past Friday's Collegeville Classic. Weathers and Sargent were two of Haverford's four individual champions over the weekend.

Nora Weathers earns the indoor track honor for the first time in her career after she was previously named the outdoor recipient last spring. Weathers' latest honor comes after the senior captain turned in a personal best time of 2:19.67 during her 800 meter run at Ursinus. Already ranked among the top 10 runners in school history in that event before her most recent PR, Weathers moves up to ninth in the College's record books with her new best time.

The individual win marked the second straight meet in which Weathers has been the first runner across the line as she also won the 3,000 meter race at the Kutztown Collegiate Invitational last weekend. A reigning All-American from the 2015 outdoor season in the mile, Weathers qualified for the NCAA's 1,500 meter Championship last winter. Her time in the 800 meters from this past weekend is currently ranked first in the Centennial Conference and 11th in Division III.

Claire Sargent earns her first weekly conference honor after taking first in the shot put at the Collegeville Classic. The sophomore finished her evening on a strong note as she capped off her event with a toss of 12.05 meters (39'6.5") during each of her final two throws. She finished 24-hundredths of a meter (nine and a half inches) ahead of her nearest competitor.

Currently ranked second in school history in the shot put, Sargent's season has gotten off to a great start with two first place finishes and a pair of runner-up performances in the shot put during the first four meets of the indoor season. Sargent also won the Haverford-Widener Holiday Dual shot put event back in December. Her best throw of 12.31 meters at last week's Kutztown Invitational is the top mark in the conference this season and ranks her 34th in all of Division III. Sargent placed second in the shot put during last season's indoor conference championship.

The women's indoor track & field team will now return home to the Alumni Field House for this weekend's McElligott Invitational. Saturday's meet is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. The Fords will compete in their home facility during three of the next four weekends.
