HAVERFORD, Pa. – After tying the Haverford College women's indoor shot put record in her senior debut, captain Claire Sargent has been named the Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week. Sargent's honor is the second of her career as she also took home that same honor on January 25, 2016.

Sargent tied Haverford's indoor record in the shot put with her throw of 41 feet, five inches (12.62m) to match the mark set by Jackie Freund '10. Sargent's best toss Saturday was 1.21 meters, nearly four feet, clear of her closest competitor from Norfolk State. Already the school record holder in the shot put during the outdoor season, her mark was a two and three-quarter inch improvement from her best throw last season.

In addition to her weekly honors, Sargent is also the school's record holder in the weight throw and outdoor shot put. She is a two-time Centennial Conference individual champion, winning the 2016 indoor shot put and 2017 outdoor shot put. The senior has been runner-up at the conference meet on three other occasions at the conference championships, combining for a total of five All-Centennial Conference honors heading into her final seasons.

Saturday's event win marked the ninth time in her indoor career that Sargent has brought home first place in the shot put. She has also accomplished this feat four times during the outdoor season.

Women's indoor track & field will see many more individuals make their season debut when the Fords host the Haverford Holiday Meet this Saturday, December 9 inside the Alumni Field House. Action this weekend is set to get underway at 12 p.m.
