Women's Indoor Track & Field Wins Collegeville Classic with Three Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.  – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team captured the team championship at Ursinus' Collegeville Classic with three event championships and several more scoring performances on Saturday. The Fords totaled 77 points among their 13 scoring performers.

Katie Sullivan was a double winner for the Fords, claiming both the 800 meters (2:25.88) and mile (5:19.09). In the 800 meters, her closest competition came from her teammates as Sophie Drew (2:26.43) and Molly Hawkins (2:29.17) helped the Fords swept the top three positions. Hannah Yeakey (2:23.47) and Amalia Axinn (2:36.21) also scored points for Haverford in the event with their respective fifth and eighth place showings. Sullivan won the mile by nearly two full seconds ahead of her closest competitor from Muhlenberg.

The Fords' final championship performance came from its distance medley relay which finished in a time of 13:03.71. That relay team of Yeakey, Grace Pindzola, Hawkins, and Drew was 32 seconds clear of the second place team. Alison Love, Marly Banatte, Axinn, and Jolie Jaycobs also competed in the DMR, placing fourth with a time of 13:58.90. Distance events overall were very good for the Fords as the team claimed three more scoring performances in the 3,000 meters. Hannah Doll led those scorers with a third place finish in a time of 11:04.69. Julia Smith (11:42.44) and Angie Petrichenko (11:43.03) nabbed the final two scoring positions with seventh and eighth place times.

Taylor Murphy scored in both the 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles to headline the sprinting events. Murphy was sixth in the dash with a time of 8.30 seconds in the finals. The junior was seventh in the hurdles event with a finals time of 9.84 seconds after posting the fourth quickest time (9.70 seconds) during the qualifying heats. First year Jessica Lopez also made both of those event finals. She placed 11th in both events with a dash time of 8.58 and hurdles mark of 10.46 in the finals. She was the sixth best finisher in the 60 meter dash heats with a time of 8.38 meters. Murphy also led the Fords in the 200 meters with a time of 27.60 seconds to place fifth for her highest finish of the day. Bannatte led a trio of Haverford entrants in the 400 meters as she placed 18th with a time of 1:10.01.

School record holder Claire Sargent scored for the Fords with a runner-up finish in the shot put. Her best throw was marked at 11.92 meters. Marisa Antinori was Haverford's only other field entrant as she placed 14th in the long jump with her best leap measuring 4.60 meters.

Women's indoor track & field will be back in action inside the Alumni Field House as the teams host the McElligott Invitational next Saturday, January 27. That meet is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. noon.
