COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team kicked off the 2019 portion of its schedule with a strong showing during a first-place team finish at Ursinus' Collegeville Classic. The Fords racked up 73 points and led the team race throughout most of the day before putting an exclamation point on the afternoon with first and second place finishes in the distance medley relay.

A strong performance in the mile proved to be Haverford's biggest scoring event as the Fords had four of the top six finishers. Jolie Jaycobs finished runner-up in a time of 5:29.57, while Griffin Kaulbach was just over a tenth of a second behind her in third. Izzy Miller (5:35.67) and Julia Smith (5:40.45) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, while Amalia Axinn (5:55.64) was 12th in the event.

Many of those same individuals came back to run on Haverford's first-place and second-place DMR's. The team of Miller, Molly Hawkins, Jaycobs, and Sophie Drew won the DMR in a time of 13:02.98. The closest competition came from their own team as the relay of Julia Smith, Sophie Schleifer, Axinn, and Kaulbach finished in 13:29.22.

Drew also added a runner-up finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line in a time of 2:23.89. Fellow DMR winners Hawkins (2:28.47) and Yeakey (2:35.94) were fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 800. Angie Petrichenko added another strong finish in the distance events as she was third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:38.01, while Mckenna Krall placed seventh in the 5,000 meters (20:08.24).

Jessica Lopez led Haverford's sprinters with a pair of scoring performances as she placed fifth in the 60 meter dash with a finals time of 8.19 seconds after finishing in 8.13 seconds during qualifying. Lopez was also seventh in the 200 meter dash (27.66 seconds). Ruanna Small added a scoring performance in the 400 meters as she was fourth in that event (1:04.62). Tess Oberholtzer finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 9.96 seconds – nearly a quarter second improvement from her qualifying time.

Leading the field performers was fourth place finish in pole vault from Grace Mathis. She cleared 2.75 meters (9'-0.25"). Marisa Antinori's best long jump was marked at 4.50 meters (14'-9.25") for a sixth-place showing, while Mari Horton placed 13th as the team's only entrant in shot put (10.12 meters, 33'-2.5").

Women's indoor track & field will return home next Saturday to compete in the McElligott Invitational. That meet will get underway at 10:30 a.m. inside Haverford's Alumni Field House.
