Sophie Drew Named Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophie Drew has been named the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after helping Haverford capture the team title at Ursinus' Collegeville Classic over the weekend. The athlete of the week award is the first of the senior captain's career across all three seasons.

The Fords scored 73 points at Ursinus to win their second consecutive team title despite not entering a full lineup. Drew certainly played a major role in that success as she anchored Haverford's first-place distance medley relay and was the individual runner-up in the 800 meters.

Haverford's DMR finished in a time of 13:00.23. With that time converted to 12:54.68 for national ranking purposes due to Ursinus' track size, the Fords' first DMR time of the season is currently ranked fourth in the very early stages of the Division III season. Izzy Miller, Molly Hawkins, and Jolie Jaycobs joined Drew as the first three legs of that relay which has the fastest time in the Centennial Conference to date.

Drew was also the runner-up in the 800 meters, crossing the line in a time of 2:23.89. That time was just seven-tenths of a second behind the event winner and currently ranks as the eighth fastest mark in the conference to date.

Women's indoor track & field will have a pair of meets upcoming this week with the bulk of the competition set to take place inside the Alumni Field House during the annual McElligott Invitational on Saturday. That meet is set to get underway at 10:30 a.m. The Fords will also enter athletes into Widener's Jumps and Throws Meet that is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
