Ford men in first after day one at conference championships; women in third

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A one-two finish by Andrew Sturner and Anders Hulleberg in the 10,000 meter run has the Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team in first place after the first day of the Centennial Conference championship on Friday at Muhlenberg College. The women sit in third place.

Sturner earned the 10,000 victory—and 10 points toward the team championship—with a time of 31 minutes, 19.27 seconds. It is his first win of the season. Hulleberg was the second-place finisher by running a 31:21.65. Joseph Carpenter (31:31.31) and Faraz Sohail (31:45.24) also grabbed points by coming home seventh and eighth, respectively.

Michael Iannacone and Zachary Smith each scored points for the Fords in the pole vault by clearing 3.80 meters (12 feet 5 ½ inches). Iannacone took fifth place–good for four points–because he needed two attempts. Smith was sixth–scoring three points–after using three tries.

Emily Lipman led the way for the Ford women, posting a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time in the 10,000 meter run. Her time in the event, which was good for a fifth-place, was 36 minutes, 43.44 seconds­­. Harper Hubbeling (seventh) and Alice Vienneau (eighth) were the other point-earners in the 10,000. Hubbeling crossed the finish line in 38:02.07. Vienneau stopped the clock in 38:09.08.

On Saturday, Haverford will compete in 11 events including the finals of the 4x800 meter relay, 3,000 meter steeplechase, long jump, high jump and discus.
