Women begin outdoor season at Danny Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track team began the outdoor season with a strong showing throughout the weekend at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.

The Fords took first in the only two track events scheduled for Friday night. Sharon Warner claimed first in the 10,000 meter run with a career-best time of 38 minutes, 30.01 seconds. Following closely behind (38:36.38) in second was Flora Berklein.

Emily Scott, running the 5,000 in a career-best time of 18:34.97, earned the other top spot for Haverford. Chelsea Thorsheim finished third in 18:37.67.

Highlighting the second day of competition on Saturday was Rachael Potter's performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Potter's career-best time of 12:01.30 earned her fifth place. Nora Howe finished eighth.

Freshman Phoebe Miller kicked off her outdoor collegiate career with a seventh-place finish in the 800 while classmate Kathryn Balmer placed 12th in the 1,500.

The Fords get back into action on Saturday when the team will split up to compete at invitationals hosted by Muhlenberg College and the University of Pennsylvania.
