Rainey leads women at Haverford Tri-Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's track team made the most of its lone home meet of the season with several standout performances during the Haverford Tri-Meet at Johnson Track on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Hope Rainey made her first attempt at the 3,000 meter steeplechase a memorable one as she ran to first place in 11 minutes, 48.17 seconds. This time currently stands fourth on the Centennial Conference performance list. Andrea Tocci and Phoebe Miller also ran well finishing second and third, respectively.

Chelsea Thorsheim continued her string of strong performances with a first-place time of 5:01.65 in the 1,500. Mary Morgan and Jamie Croucher followed in second and third.

Kara McMahon's season-best time of 2:24.06 was good for first in the 800 meter run while Carson Wills picked up another first  for the Fords in the 100m hurdles. Wills also ran well in the 100 meter dash where she placed third--right behind teammate Natasha Stanley who took second in 14.04 seconds.

Robin Chernow helped Haverford shine in the field events portion of the meet as she registered a career-best discus throw of 26.29 meters (86 feet, 3 inches).

The Fords continue a busy week on Thursday when some squad members will compete at the fabled Penn Relays at Franklin Field. Haverford then heads to The College of New Jersey on Saturday for the Lions Invitational.
