ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team capped a successful weekend with an array of impressive performances at the Muhlenberg College Invitational on Saturday.
Andrea Tocci finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 45.69 seconds to place first. Chelsea Thorsheim (third), Nora Howe (fourth) and Maggie Heffernan (fifth) gave the Fords four of the top-five finishers.
The 1,500-meter run saw similar results as Hope Rainey claimed second in 4:51.49 and Nora Weathers, Kara McMahon and Sara Hess claimed the next three spots. Hess and McMahon also ran well in the 800 as they placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Cara Keifer led the Haverford effort in the 800 by finishing second in 2:19.89.
Keifer, Rainey and Weathers joined forces earlier in the day with Katherine Greifeld in the 4x800 to take first in 9:48.56.
Hannah Davis accounted for another high finish for the Fords when she finished second in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.73. Davis also helped the 4x100 relay team to a fourth-place time of 51.74 seconds. Running with Davis in the 4x100 quartet was Kimberly Carlomagno, Emma Kornetsky and Katie Bigay.
Kornetsky was busy off the track as well as her career-best performance of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2.75 inches) was good for second in the long jump.
Robin Chernow and Dominique Meeks contributed to Haverford's solid day in field events by finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.
Several members of the squad participated in the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University on Friday evening.
Katie Balmer's career-best time of 4:49.10 in the 1,500 currently ranks fifth in the Centennial this season.
Flora Berklein provided a career-best performance of her own in the 10,000 with a finish of 37:34.35. Berklein's time stands second on the conference performance list while Emily Scott's time of 38:22.45 ranks third.
Fiona Hendry and Kelley Riffenburgh competed in the 5,000 with Hendry's time of 17:45.65 ranking fourth among conference performances.
Haverford returns to action next Saturday when it takes part in the Lions Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey.
