Women's Track & Field Dazzles at Mid Week Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Competing in its only home competition of the outdoor season, the Haverford College women's track & field team claimed 10 individual titles of the 14 events that were contested. The track meet saw Widener come to the Johnson Track for head-to-head competition. 

The Fords got their evening off to a quick start with a win in the 4x100 relay. The team of Mairead FerryCarolyn OehrigSedona MurphyBrittany Steele finished in a time of 50.51 seconds. That mark makes them the eighth fastest relay in school history and moves them up to second in the Centennial Conference for the outdoor season.

After anchoring the relay team, Steele also captured the 100 meters (12.87), while finishing second in the 200 meters (26.51). Natasha Stanley finished behind Steele in the 100 meters with a time of 13.55 seconds, while Yue Xiang's time of 29.37 in the 200 meters earned her a fourth place finish.

In the 800 meters, Haverford swept the top four positions. Nora Weathers' time of 2:17.82 moves her atop the conference rankings after Tuesday's meet. Katie Sullivan added the fourth fastest time in conference this year with a second place finish in a time of 2:20.31. Katherine Greifeld (2:25.98) and Murphy (2:29.31) rounded out the Fords' top four.

Haverford also took three of the top four slots in the 1,500 meters and seven of the top 10 overall. Leading that pack was event champion Kelley Riffenburgh in a time of 4:50.13. Amelia Keyser-Gibson placed second behind her teammate with a time of 4:53.56, while Maggie Heffernan added a fourth place finish with a mark of 5:04.31.

In the field events that were dominated by Haverford entrants, the Fords crowned five more individual champions. Kimberly Haughton won the long jump with a leap of 4.33 meters. Elizabeth Reikowski finished first in the triple jump with a new personal best (10.32 meters). Emily Anderson was a double winner with championship throws in both the discus (35.70 meters) and javelin (26.64 meters). Claire Sargent won the shot put with a personal best throw of 12.11 meters.

Women's track and field will return to competition this weekend at the TCNJ Invitational. That meet will be contested on Saturday. That upcoming date will also be the final preparations before the Centennial Conference Championships at Muhlenberg.
