HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field team broke in its brand new throwing facility and renovated track in style as the Fords won all four throwing events and took home the top individual finisher in three of the races on the track.
Emily Anderson was a triple winner for the Fords as she won the hammer (30.03 meters), discus (34.14 meters), and javelin (24.52 meters). Anderson's new personal best in the hammer throw extended her school record in that event as the hammer was contested at Haverford for the first time in program history.
Claire Sargent won the shot put to give Haverford a clean sweep of all four throwing events. Sargent's best shot put was marked at 11.62 meters. Sargent was also second in the discus with her best throw traveling 29.45 meters. Anderson also added a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 9.87 meters. That throw placed her behind Sargent and Robin Chernow '15 in that event.
On the track, the Fords won both the hurdle events as Taylor Murphy won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.29 seconds. Tess Oberholtzer won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.02. Brittany Steele was the Fords' third winner on the track as she was the first across the line in the 200 meters, finishing in a time of 26.19 seconds. Murphy (26.67 seconds) and Kerry Quigley (28.55 seconds) were second and third in that event.
The 1500 meters saw the largest contingent of Haverford entrants. The Fords swept the sixth through 11th positions in that field. Liana Alves was Haverford's top finisher in that event with a time of 5:27.39. The top five positions were separated by just six-tenths of a second. In the 800 meters, Caroline Henry (2:31.34) and Julia Smith (2:32.57) placed third and fourth in their field, while Amy Zamora was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.37.
Competing Monday's pole vault, Grace Mathis placed second overall as she cleared 2.77 meters. That height moves her to fifth in the school record books during the outdoor season. Elizabeth Reikowski was second in the triple jump on Wednesday with her best mark showing 10.43 meters. Mathis was fourth in this event with a mark of 9.58 meters. Emily Williams placed third in the long jump that was contested on Monday with a leap of 4.22 meters.
Women's track & field will head to The College of New Jersey this Saturday for its final meet before the Centennial Conference Championship. The TCNJ Invitational is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
