Student-Athlete Profile: Nora Weathers '16

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Nora Weathers '16 certainly made her imprint on the Haverford community over her four years.

A cross country and track and field athlete, Weathers competed for Haverford all twelve seasons of her college career. As her head coach Fran Rizzo put it, "When Nora was on campus, she was in season. When she went home for the summer, she wasn't."

Weathers was a chemistry major and environmental studies minor at Haverford. Her senior year, she got involved with the ETHOS food initiative group, which worked to bring ethical, transparent, humane, organic, and sustainable food to the dining center. Outside of her work with this group, Weathers was a teacher's assistant for an organic chemistry class and worked all four years at the dining center.

Weathers spent a large amount of her time in Helen White's chemistry lab this past year. For her senior thesis, she examined the association of DDT with sediment manner. She identified remnants of the pesticide sprayed in the 1940s and 50s, and discovered what its effect is today.

On the track and cross country course, Weathers racked up the accolades over her four years. She is most proud of her 2015 Centennial Conference championship in the 1500m during the spring track season. She also earned All-America honors in this event, as well as in the distance medley relay her senior year.

Last week, Weathers received the Gregory Kannerstein '63 award, given to a senior athlete whose level of performance has had the biggest impact on the athletic department. She will be participating in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this month to wrap up her stellar career.
