Women's Track & Field Competes at Widener, Bucknell

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team enjoyed a successful weekend of competition with entrants at both Widener's Chester Quarry Classic and Bucknell's Bison Invitational.

Haverford won numerous heats throughout the day at Widener, with three heat winners in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. Jolie Jaycobs and Angie Petrichenko won their heats in both of these events. Jacobs placed 17th in the 800 meters (2:33.53) and 16th in the 1,500 meters (5:14.00). Petrichenko was 22nd in the 1,500 meters (5:23.49) and 28th overall in the 800 meters (2:45.98). Marly Banatte was the team's top finisher in the 800 meters as she won her heat in a time of 2:33.50 to place 16th overall. Sarah Wade was the Fords' top finisher in the 1,500 meters as she placed a team-best 14th in the event with a time of 5:12.74 during her heat victory.

Jessica Lopez won both of her sprinting heats. She became the eighth fastest individual in school history with a time of 13.01 seconds to place 13th in the 100 meter dash. Lopez crossed the line in 27.64 seconds to place 21st in the 200 meters. Tess Oberholtzer also won her heat in the 200 meters with a time of 28.46 seconds. She backed that up with a heat win in the 100 meter hurdles, placing 12th overall with a time of 16.46 seconds. Oberholtzer was 15th in that same event with a time of 16.76 seconds.

Rounding out action on the track, Liana Alves just missed a scoring performance as she was ninth in the steeplechase with a time of 13:18.73. The 4x100 relay team of Marisa Antinori, Lopez, Turner, and Kerry Quigley was also ninth with a time of 51.6 seconds.

In the field events, the Fords had numerous top 10 finishes in the throwing events. Claire Sargent was second in the shot put, with her best throw marking 11.77 meters. Unique Tuberville (35.75 meters) set a new personal best in the hammer throw, coming just eight inches shy of the school record and placing seventh overall. Sargent was eighth in that event with a mark of 34.28 meters. Emily Anderson was fourth in the discus with her best throw measuring 34.04 meters. Mari Horton become the ninth ranked individual in school history with her throw of 28.51 meters in javelin. Lopez was ninth in the triple jump (10.32 meters), while Quigley matched that finish in the long jump (4.84 meters).

At Bucknell, Sophie Drew highlighted four entrants in the 1,500 meters as she was 11th overall with a time of 4:45.85 in the unseeded race. Hannah Yeakey entered the unseeded 5,000 meter race and finished in a time of 19:56.47. In the seeded 1,500 meter race, Katie Sullivan placed 38th overall in a tough field with a time of 4:36.86. Nicole Giannetti crossed the line in a time of 4:43.29, placing 58th.

Women's outdoor track & field will be back at Widener next weekend for the two-day Widener Invitational. The Fords are also scheduled to have entrants in Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational next Friday.
