Giannetti, Sullivan Repeat Academic All-Area Honors

Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the second straight season, Nicole Giannetti and Katie Sullivan have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for track & field. Giannetti also earned the award this fall as a member of the Fords' cross country team. The all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Haverford was one of only three NCAA schools, including Division I, II, and III with more than one student-athlete named to the academic all-area team.

Katie Sullivan, Haverford's co-Varsity Cup recipient this season, capped her career as a two-time All-American during her indoor career. She was a member of the third place DMR in 2016 and followed that up with All-America honors in the mile during her 2017 indoor campaign. Sullivan also qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 1,500 meters during each of the past two seasons. She caps her track career as a four-time Centennial Conference Champion.

Nicole Giannetti was an NCAA Track & Field Championships qualifier in the steeplechase as a junior. She earned All-Mideast Region honors in the mile during the 2017-18 indoor season and graduates as a four-time all-region performer during her decorated track & field career. A runner-up in the steeplechase during the Centennial Conference Championships this spring, Giannetti was a member of the conference winning DMR in 2016 and wraps up her track career as a five-time All-Centennial Conference performer. She was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll during each of her eligible years across all three running seasons.

Haverford joined Villanova as the only area school with multiple selections to the academic all-area team. Sullivan and Giannetti were joined on the team by Villanova's Siofra Cleirigh Buttner and Nicole Hutchinson as well as Millie Howard of Temple; Kim Johnson of Rowan; Nicole Weenink of Eastern; Allison Reuter of Widener; Jackie D'Amico of Immaculata; and Anna Peyton Malizia from the University of Pennsylvania.
