Women’s Track & Field kicks off the Ursinus College Track & Field Festival

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College Women's Track & Field team competed in four events Friday evening to begin the Ursinus College Track & Field Festival on the campus of Ursinus College.

The Fords had five runners compete in the 1,500 meters, as Dominique Monroy led the Haverford quintet, placing seventh with a time of 5:11.47, earning a new personal-best by just over four seconds. On the heels of Monroy, was teammate Alice Sappenfield who marked her 1500 meter debut finishing ninth overall with a time of 5:12.14. Also competing in the event for the first time was Grace Chen, who crossed the finish line in 11th place with a time of 5:14.58. Krysta Nichols (14th, 5:25.75) and Sophia Furman (18th, 5:39.22) rounded out the contingent for the Fords.

Over at the 5,000 meters, first-year Poppy Chrisman made her event debut, placing 10th with a time of 20:14.20. In 14th place was Audrey Carter completing the race in 21:40.43, while Judy Xie finished in 17th place with a time of 22:44.42.

At the throwing pit, Summer Ryan launched the shot put 8.72 meters (28 feet, seven-and-a-half inches), to place 12th. The throw matched Ryan's career-high mark from the indoor season. 

In the discus throw, sophomore Rachitha Kumar tossed the discus 18.35m 60 feet, two inches), to place 18th.

Day two at the Ursinus College Track & Field Festival now awaits the Fords, as the first events in Collegeville on Saturday, April 7, will begin at 10 a.m.
