Haverford College Athletics

  • Haverford had the most student-athletes (80) named to the Centennial Conference academic honor roll for the third straight season of competition.
  • Centennial spring all-sportsmanship team: Kevin Caulfield (men’s tennis), David Colletta (men’s track & field), Perrin Downing (women’s lacrosse), Kevin Goff (baseball), Henry Millson (men’s lacrosse), Gabrielle Sapienza (softball), Emily Scott (women’s track & field)

Baseball

  • Set a program record with a 14-game win streak to open the 2013 season.
  • 27 wins equaled the second-most in a season
  • Led the Centennial Conference with 146 steals for the fifth time in sixth seasons.
  • Only had 60 errors, fewest in the Centennial Conference
  • Went 8-0 against 2012 NCAA tournament teams and 5-3 vs. 2013 NCAA tournament teams.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Bergjans – first team, Fox – first team, Hudak – first team, Bannard – honorable mention, Miranda – honorable mention)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll – Black, Coulter, Fox, Frankiw, Goff, Liscovitz, Miranda, Randazzo, Tetilucci

Tommy Bergjans

  • D3baseball.com All-American – second team (pitcher)
  • D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region – first team (pitcher)
  • American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region – second team (second team)
  • Became the first Haverford pitcher to win Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year
  • Led the conference with 89 strikeouts which set a new program high for Haverford; his 12.39 strikeouts per nine innings led the league and was fourth-best in NCAA Division III.
  • Breaking his own program record set the previous season, Bergjans fanned 18 in a home win over Washington College (Mar. 20)
  • Philadelphia Inquirer 2013 Academic All-Area Baseball team

Casey Fox

  • D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region – third team (third base)
  • American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region – first team (utility)
  • Philadelphia Inquirer 2013 Academic All-Area Baseball team

Kevin Goff

  • Set the program mark for relief pitchers with seven saves during the season.
  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team
  • Philadelphia Inquirer 2013 Academic All-Area Baseball team
  • Selected for a Fullbright Scholarship

Alex Hudak

  • D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region – second team (designated hitter)

Nick Miranda

  • Broke his own team record for runs scored (50) as he led the conference for the second straight season; his 31 stolen bases were also tops in the league.

Nick Ott

  • Posted a perfect fielding average (1.000) for Haverford accumulating 165 chances without an error while registering 32 assists over 35 games behind the plate.

Softball 

  • Earned a spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Ranking in mid-March.
  • Advanced to Centennial championship game while tying the program record for wins in a season (26).
  • Established single-season team records for batting average (.314), slugging percentage (.449), hits (349), runs scored (240), runs batted in (194), doubles (64), home runs (23) and total bases (500), and scored a program-record 22 runs in one contest.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (DiCandilo – first team, Newman – first team, Tauriello – second team)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll – (Brody, Comerford, DiCandilo, Newman)

Jen DiCandilo

  • Philadelphia Inquirer 2013 Academic All-Area Softball team
  • Jewish Sports Review 2013 College Softball All-American  team
  • Established single-season program marks for doubles (15) and total bases (80).

Elizabeth Newman

  • Set single-season program records in batting average (.439), on base percentage (.516), runs scored (45) and hits (58) while also pacing the Centennial in runs scored.

Gabrielle Sapienza

  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team

Kristin Tatum

  • Set a single-season program record for home runs in a season (seven) and a single-game mark for RBIs with eight.

Sara Tauriello

  • Tied the single-season record for batters struck out in a season (95) and set a game record for strikeouts (15) on March 10 against Brandeis.

Jen Ward

  • Centennial Conference Softball Coach of the Year

Emily Winesett

  • Matched Tauriello’s game strikeout record (15) vs. Hood (Mar. 12).

Men’s Lacrosse

  • Finished second nationally on the laxpower.com strength of schedule index.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Chanelli – first team, Clay – second team, Millson – second team)

Scott Chanelli

  • Led the Centennial with a league-best 47 caused turnovers while his mark of 3.36 caused turnovers per game ranked fifth in NCAA Division III.
  • United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American – honorable mention
  • USILA/LaxWorld Senior All-Star Game
  • USILA Scholar All-American
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team

Henry Millson

  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team

Women’s Lacrosse

  • Established a new program mark for Centennial Conference wins (seven) on the season and tied the program record for overall wins (13).
  • Entered the Centennial tournament as the third seed—the highest finish in program history.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Perry – first team, Stockbower – second team, Likes – honorable mention)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Spring Honor Roll – (Cullen, Downing, Horn, Likes, Samide, Sockett, Stockbower)

Perrin Downing

  • Graduated as the program leader in career starts with 69.
  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team

Diana Perry

  • Set a new single-season program record with 16 free position goals.
  • Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches (IWLCA) All-Metro Region – second team

Grace Stockbower

  • Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches (IWLCA) All-Metro Region – second team
  • 2013 IWLCA/DeBeer North-South Division III Senior All-Star Game participant
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team

Men’s Tennis

  • Went to the Centennial Conference tournament final
  • Earned its way into at least the semifinal round of the conference tournament, for the third consecutive spring.
  • Got past Swarthmore College, 7-2, in the regular-season finale for the first regular-season victory over the Garnet in more than 60 years.
  • Kevin Caulfield earned All-America status after winning his opening-round match in the round of 32 before falling to the eventual national champion in the round of 16.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Caulfield – singles and doubles – first team, Himelstein – doubles – first team, Acaba – doubles – second team, Cebul – doubles – second team, Romei – doubles – second team)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll – (Caulfield, Cebul, Dougherty, Himelstein, Millman, Romei)
  • Caulfield finished the season ranked ninth regionally and 42nd nationally.
  • The doubles pairing of Danny Himelstein and Caulfield finished the season ranked fifth in the region and 25th nationally.

Luis Acaba

  • Centennial Conference men’s tennis Rookie of the Year

Kevin Caulfield

  • Earned All-America status after winning his opening-round match in the round of 32 before falling to the eventual national champion in the round of 16.
  • Finished the season ranked ninth regionally and 42nd nationally.
  • Finished the season ranked fifth in the region and 25th nationally with doubles partner Danny Himselstein.
  • Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region recipient of the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award
  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Tennis Performer of the Year for the second consecutive year
  • Granted a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Women’s Tennis

  • Qualified for the Centennial Conference tournament for the fifth year in a row.
  • Was named an ITA All-Academic Team
  • Caitlin Gallagher became the first Haverford women’s tennis player to be named the Centennial’s player of the year.
  • The Fords rose to as high as 11th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region and finished the season ranked 16th.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Ferrara – singles and doubles – second team, Gallagher singles – first team, doubles – second team)
  • Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll – (Andersen, Donches, Ferrara, Gallagher, Tong)
  • ITA scholar-athlete status: (Bloom, Donches, Ferrara, Flynn, Gallagher, Healy, Rauss, Tong, Torg and Wolberg)

Alex Ferrara

  • Finished the season ranked 14th in the region in doubles.

Caitlin Gallagher

  • Became the first Haverford women’s tennis player to be named the Centennial’s player of the year.
  • Won her first 14 matches at top-flight singles this spring after playing primarily at No. 2 last season.
  • Concluded the season ranked 20th regionally among singles players.
  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

  • The Fords finished eighth at the NCAA D-III 2013 outdoor men’s track & field championship behind the all-American performances of Bregman, Kissin, Schilit and Stadler.
  • Won the Centennial Conference Championships meet
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Bregman – steeplechase – first team, 5,000 meters – honorable mention, 4x100 relay – first team, Schilit – 1,500 meters – first team, Stadler – 10,000, 5,000 meters – first team, Ainsley – 100 meters hurdles – second team, Graves – triple jump – second team, high jump – honorable mention,  Iannacone – pole vault – second team, Kissin – 10,000, 5,000 meters – second team, Marquardt – 1,500 meters – second team,  Roza – steeplechase – honorable mention)

Avi Bregman

  • NCAA Division III Men’s Track and Field All-American – steeplechase
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Track & Field team

David Colletta

  • Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team

Peter Kissin

  • NCAA Division III Men’s Track and Field All-American – 10,000 and 5,000 meters
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Track & Field team

Jordan Schilit

  • NCAA Division III Men’s Track and Field All-American – 1,500 meters

Christopher Stadler

  • NCAA Division III Men’s Track and Field All-American – 5,000 meters
  • Centennial Outdoor Men’s Track Performer of the Meet after winning the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters in record-times.
  • Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Track & Field team

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

  • Finished second at the Centennial Conference championship meet.
  • All-Centennial Conference – (Rainey – 3,000 meter steeplechase – first team, Tocci – 3,000 meter steeplechase – second team, Hannah Davis – 400 meter hurdle – second team, Maggie Heffernan – honorable mention, Fiona Hendry – 5,000 meter – honorable mention)
  • Hope Rainey placed 27th on the final national performance list in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
  • Named a USTFCCCA D-III 2013 track & field all-academic team

Katie Balmer

  • Part of the 4x800 relay team that established a new school record (9:16.31) at the conference championship meet on its way to a third-place finish.
  • United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) women's 2013 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team

Sarah Hess

  • Part of the 4x800 relay team that established a new school record (9:16.31) at the conference championship meet on its way to a third-place finish.
  • Part of the 4x1,500 relay team that established a new school record with a time of 19:52.33 at the TCNJ Invitational.

Cara Keifer

  • Part of the 4x800 relay team that established a new school record (9:16.31) at the conference championship meet on its way to a third-place finish.
  • Part of the 4x1,500 relay team that established a new school record with a time of 19:52.33 at the TCNJ Invitational.

Kara McMahon

  • Part of the 4x800 relay team that established a new school record (9:16.31) at the conference championship meet on its way to a third-place finish.

Hope Rainey
