Men's basketball shot down by Bullets

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's basketball team dropped a 58-43 decision to visiting Gettysburg College  Saturday night in Centennial Conference action on the Gooding Arena floor.

Tied at the half and again at the 15:53 mark of the second period, Gettysburg (2-3, 2-0 CC) used a short 6-0 run to grab a lead that Haverford (3-3, 1-1 CC) never fully recovered from.

The Fords twice trimmed the margin down to three but a second half shooting percentage of just 29 percent coupled with an 0-for-14 night from behind the three-point arc doomed the chances of a comeback, especially when the visitors heated up and hit 52 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.

Early on the momentum was flowing in favor of the Fords as they broke out to a six point lead within the opening four minutes of game action.

The lead eventually ballooned to nine with just under eight to play in the half but a 12-3 run from the Bullets to close out the opening stanza changed the momentum and Haverford was never able to turn back the tide.

Three Fords reached double-figures in scoring in the loss led by Sam Permutt and Cam Baker who each netted 12 points. Doug Edelman added 10 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.

Gettysburg was led by Andrew Powers' 25 points. Powers surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau during second half action of the win.

The Fords will try to get back on the winning track in their next game, a Wednesday night conference tilt at Ursinus College.
