HAVERFORD, Pa. – A chilly start to Tuesday night's Centennial Conference opener for the Haverford College men's basketball team proved to be a hurdle the Fords weren't able to overcome in a 72-46 loss to visiting Johns Hopkins University in the league opener for both teams.

Haverford (1-2, 0-1 CC) out scored the Blue Jays (2-1, 1-0), by a 17-15 count over the opening half's final 14 minutes, but the first six minutes of the game made for too steep of a climb.

Hopkins bolted out to a 15-0 lead before Bo Abrams' short jumper from in close got the Fords on the scoreboard at the 14:14 mark. Abrams, Gibby Graves, Brett Cohen and Cam Baker each scored at least four points in the first-half come back attempt.

Adam Spengler kicked off Hopkins' second half in the first minute of play with a three-pointer that extended the Blue Jays' halftime lead of 13 to 16, but Haverford trimmed the advantage to 11 on a Graves layup, an Anthony Reyes short jumper and then a Reyes three-pointer.

That would be as close as the Fords would get as Hopkins stretched its margin using three-pointers and tight defense.

Reyes, only a freshman, led the Fords with 15 points including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Baker also reached double figures adding 12. Cohen and Graves led Haverford on the glass with five and four rebounds, respectively.

George Bugarinovic spearheaded the Blue Jays' offense with a game-high 21 points. Jimmy Hammer, with 15, and Spengler with 11 points also got into double-digits for the offense.

Haverford gained solid productivity from its bench as the non-starters scored 26 of the team's 46 points. Hopkins, though, poured in 32 points from in the paint and limited the Fords to just one second-chance point on the night while converting its second opportunities into 15 points.

Haverford jumps right back into action following the holiday break as Catholic University visits Gooding Arena on Monday, Nov. 26 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
