HAVERFORD, Pa. – Brett Cohen's 12-point outing on Thursday night was the seventh time this season the Haverford College forward has scored in double-digits, but his game-high offensive performance wasn't enough as the Fords dropped a 64-41 non-conference men's basketball decision to visiting DeSales University in Gooding Arena.

DeSales (10-2) broke out front quickly, taking a 14-6 lead over the Fords (4-6) in a little more than five minutes of first-half action. The Bulldogs' lead grew to 12 several times throughout the opening 20 minutes but a layup and jumper from Cam Baker along with a fastbreak layup by Gibby Graves near the end of the half allowed Haverford to hit the intermission trailing by only eight, 26-18.

The Fords missed an opportunity to cut into the lead even more with a missed jumper to open the second half, then had a difficult time stopping the inside pounding of DeSales which scored eight straight points on a short jumper followed by three layups on successive possessions.

James Levine added an offensive spark during the second half for Haverford, hitting two of three from beyond the arc. Eight of Cohen's dozen points came during the game's final 20 minutes.

Haverford held the Bulldogs' top scorer, forward Brett Moyer who led his team with 12 points, to four points under his season scoring average but 10 other DeSales players scored at least two points in a balanced scoring attack.

Moyer had a strong night on the boards against the Fords, pulling down 14 rebounds to record the double-double. Cohen led Haverford on the glass with six rebounds while Levine came away with five more. The Bulldogs, however, were able to build a 42-23 advantage in rebounds with 36 of their boards coming in the defensive end preventing Haverford from generating much offense from second-chance opportunities.

The Fords leap back into Centennial Conference action with their next outing, a home date Saturday at 1 p.m. against Dickinson College.
