CARLISLE, Pa. – A scrappy defensive effort by the Haverford College men's basketball team came up short as an equally tough defense from Dickinson kept its team in the game long enough to pour in enough points late for a 67-48 victory. The Fords were down by two points midway through the second half before the defending Centennial Conference Champions hit their offensive grove to pull away in the end.

Matt Sherman scored a game-high 18 points against his younger brother's team to pace the Haverford offense, while Kahlil Garnes just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Despite a strong defensive showing from Haverford, three Red Devils reached double figures on the afternoon. Ted Hinnenkamp's double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds headlined his team's efforts. Brandon Angradi tied Sherman with a game-high 18 points, while Moses Romocki finished with 16 points.

Playing on the road, Haverford outshot the host Red Devils in the opening half. Each side finished with nine made shots from the field in the first 20 minutes. Haverford did so in 26 attempts, while Dickinson took 29 shots from the field during the first half. The Fords also held their counterparts to a 3-of-10 effort from beyond the arc during that time.

Following the opening five points from the Red Devils, Haverford had the score knotted at five-all after Sherman knocked down a three-pointer. The Fords took their first lead of the half when Sherman hit his second three-pointer of the game to put his side up 13-11. He came back with the big brother response to younger sibling Corey Sherman's three-pointer with a layup to give his team a 15-14 edge midway through the first half.

Dickinson went on a 10-0 run over the next five-plus minutes to stretch its lead all the way out to nine points. Nevertheless, a layup from Garnes broke the scoreless stretch and reenergized Haverford's defense. The Fords did not allow the Red Devils a point in the final 5:02 of the opening half, while a pair of buckets from the field off the hand of Sherman brought Haverford's deficit to a single possession, 24-21, before the buzzer sounded on the opening half.

Joe Scibelli kept the Fords' momentum going as the teams returned from the halftime break. He came up with a steal on the inbound pass and was fouled on his way to the basket. The Haverford freshman sank both of his shots from the free throw line to get his team within a single point. That one point deficit was the first of three times Haverford had the Red Devils' lead down to a single point in the second half, but they could not regain the lead following any of those occasions.

With the score set at 37-35 and 10:31 to play after a layup by Sherman, the Red Devils found their shooting touch as three consecutive three-pointers from Dickinson turned a one possession game into an 11 point difference. The Fords brought the game back within single digits as Sherman and Garnes combined to go 4-for-4 at the line. However, the visiting Fords never came close enough down the stretch as the Red Devils continued their scorching shooting that emerged in the final 10 minutes of game action.

Men's basketball will have two more games before breaking from competition to focus on finals. Up first will be a trip to Moravian on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip. The Fords close out the December schedule with a home date against Summit (Pa.) next Saturday at 3 p.m.
