Michael Pyo (men's fencing), Sophie Gardiner (women’s fencing), and Noah Tunis (men's squash) all earned the honor for the Fords for the 2023-24 season.
The recipients of these awards are determined by an evaluation of their regular season performance and postseason performance, including both NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
Two Haverford men's foil fencers, Michael Pyo and Andrew Strayer, were named to the All-Region Team by distinction of being the thid and fourth highest-finishing Division III foilists on the day.
Haverford will be pitted against fencers from Princeton, Penn State, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Duke, North Carolina, Fairleigh Dickinson (DI campus), Drew, Stevens, Temple (women), NJIT, Haverford, Wagner, and Lafayette.
The Fords achieved their best result in several years, triumphing over the host Brewers with a close score of 14-13. Additionally, they secured victories against Denison, Wagner, and MACFA rivals Hunter, Cornell, and Drew.
The Fords had their first Temple finalist in five years, as first-year phenomenon Eric Chen put on an acrobatic, athletic, and impressive performance in the Epee, placing fifth.
The Men’s squad will be challenged in nine regular season fencing competitions this season, while the Women’s Fencing team will be squaring off in eight regular season fencing bouts.
