Men's Squash Outlasted by NYU

WINDSOR, Conn. – The Haverford College men's squash team lost its first match of the Chaffee Cup in the College Squash Association's (CSA) Team Championships to the New York University Violets 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Loomis Chaffee School.

Sophomore Aaron Horwitz recorded the only point for Haverford at the No. 2 ladder position. Horwitz won his third match in a row in four games (11-6, 12-14, 11-7, 11-6) for his ninth victory of the season.

Freshman Peter Dudley won the first two games at the No. 4 position (11-9, 11-8), but dropped three straight including a tough 11-9 loss in game four. Junior Alex Egilman found himself up two games to one, but NYU's Jay Prasad completed the comeback by winning games four and five. Junior Laurenson Ward lost in four with the first three games decided by identical 12-10 scores. Junior Nathan Vestrich-Shade fought valiantly at the No. 1 position, but lost in three games despite scoring 27 points. Sophomore Chris Hoogstraten also was taken down in four, coming up with a 11-6 victory in game two.

The loss drops the Fords to 10-8 overall. Head coach Niki Clement's squad will take on Lehigh University tomorrow in the consolation bracket of the Chaffee Cup beginning at 9 a.m. Haverford beat Lehigh on Jan. 29 by an 8-1 score which gave the team its longest winning streak since the 2012 season.
