Callon, Bregman among Fords with PRs at Haverford Tri-Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – A blustery day at Johnson Track didn't slow down Haverford College's men's outdoor track team as several Fords posted personal-best performances Tuesday afternoon at the Haverford Tri-Meet. Widener University and Villanova University were the other schools at the meet.

The Fords' Sam Callon raced to collegiate-best times in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Callon won the 200 with a time of 22.84 seconds and finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.46 seconds, edging out teammate James Torain who finished in third.

Avi Bregman, the Fords' usual leader in the steeplechase, raced the 1,500 instead on Tuesday and posted a career-best of 4:06.78 to finish in second place. Christopher Stadler finished in third, a little more than two seconds behind Bregman.

Haverford registered another 2-3 finish with Eric Arnold and Michael Riccio taking those spot in the 800. Both -- Arnold with a 1:54.59, and Riccio with a 1:54.95 -- ran to personal-best times in the event.

David Roza battled the wind as it picked up at the end of the meet, finishing second in the 5,000. Earlier, Willie Xiang was just short of a new best in the 400 in which he finished second.

The Fords will split their squad for the upcoming weekend as a number of the men will participate in the Penn Relays on Saturday while the rest of the squad travels to the The College of New Jersey's invitational.
