PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's 4x800 meter relay squad finished in 21st place Saturday afternoon at the Penn Relays, coming up two seconds shy of a few major upsets.
The quartet -- consisting of Andrew Golato, Ivo Milic-Strkalj, Michael Riccio and Tim Schoch -- posted a time of 7 minutes, 45.78 seconds, the fastest by a Division III team in the event.
Within striking distance for the Fords were the University of Pittsburgh (7:43.55), Harvard (7:44.07) and Purdue (7:44.96).
Two other Fords traveled to Ewing, N.J., on Saturday to compete in the 2012 Lions Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey.
Gebby Keny raced to a time of 52.78 in the 400 to finish 23rd. In the shot put, Kahmai Martin-Kirkland fell 0.03 meters short of his season best with a 20th-place throw of 11.78 meters (38 feet, 7.75 inches). Martin-Kirkland was 17th in the discus with a best toss of 35.85 (117-07).
Haverford next heads to Collegeville, Pa., and Ursinus College for the Centennial Conference championship meet which runs Friday through Sunday, May 4-6.
