PRINCETON, N.J. – Haverford College's men's outdoor track & field team split ranks Friday evening, participating in both the Larry Ellis Distance Meet at Princeton University and the Widener (Univ.) Invitational. Senior Peter Kissin and Avi Bregman posted career-best times in their Princeton races, while locally, several Fords registered season and outdoor bests at Widener.
Kissin was the fastest finisher from Division III in the 5,000-meter run, clocking a 10th-place time of 14 minutes, 25.42 seconds which takes over the top spot on the Centennial Conference's outdoor performance list.
Teammate Christopher Stadler was 20th (14:35.70) with his outdoor best and Brian Sokas (40th) ran a season best 14:47.82 which was only two seconds away from his career-best clocking.
Bregman shattered his career best in the 3,000m steeplechase at Princeton, improving upon his already-top time for the conference by nine seconds with a fourth-place time of 8:59.67. With weekend meets still to be completed, Bregman's time sits as second-best in the nation on Friday night.
In the 1,500m Elite event at Princeton, Jordan Schilit led a trio of Fords with a 19th-place finish (3:49.85) that was within two seconds of his career best. Freshman Charlie Marquardt (37th) set a collegiate-best with a time of 3:53.08 while Michael Riccio finished 56th.
At Widener, the Fords received season-best marks from Michael Iannacone and Gibby Graves in the pole vault and triple jump events, respectively. Iannacone cleared a height of 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9.5 inches) to finish in a tie for seventh, and Graves leaped to a distance of 12.54m (41-1.75) which was fourth-best at the meet.
A pair of freshmen set outdoor bests in the 5,000 as Dylan Verner-Crist (15:37.22) and Sam Fujimori (15:39.78) placed 15th and 16th, respectively. The duo were surpassed in the event by teammate Joel Christian's 11th place time of 15:25.84.
Widener's meet continues on Saturday with field events starting at 9 a.m. and running events hearing their first gun at 11 a.m.
