Fords compete at Widener and Larry Ellis Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team began the weekend by sending athletes to two different meets, the Widener Invitational and the Larry Ellis Invitational, on Friday.

Avi Bregman competed at the Larry Ellis Invite and finished in the top 10 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Bregman crossed the finish line in 8 minutes, 51.30 seconds and ran 17 seconds faster than his previous season-best. The senior's time broke the Haverford College and Centennial Conference record in the event.

Teammate Charlie Marquardt also competed at Princeton in the 1,500-meter relay and placed 24th with a time of 3:50.09. The sophomore's race was his fastest ever in the event, by more than two seconds, and is the ninth best time in the race in all of Division-III this year.

At Widener, Brian Sokas and Joel Christian ran top-three times in the 5,000-meter race. Sokas finished second overall in a time of 14:47.97, while Christian placed third in 14:49.76.

Gibby Graves jumped into sixth with a leap of 12.78 meters (41 feet, 11.25 inches) in the triple jump while competing at Widener.

Haverford will continue to compete at both meets on Saturday, April 19.
