Men's Track & Field Finishes Successful Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. -- The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team wrapped up a successful trip to the Widener Invitational on Saturday with quite a few notable performances, namely a significant finish for the 4x400 relay team.

The relay team clocked in at 3:20.35, the eighth-fastest time in the storied program and the fastest since 2011. The performance awarded the relay team third place out of 22 participating schools. Their mark was just about five seconds off from the school record (3:15.88), set in 1998, which still stands as the Centennial Conference record.

The 4x400 wasn't the only relay team to turn a notable performance today as the 4x100 team finished second place with a final time of 43.02 seconds. That time is just over a half second behind the school record of 42.59 seconds, set in 2004.

Elsewhere, senior Jeffrey Ainsley finished third in the 110 hurdles with a final time of 15.35 seconds, just a fraction of a second off from first place. In the 400 hurdles, Dorvil Gabriel notched another top ten finish for Haverford, placing sixth with a final time of 57.49 seconds.

In the field events, freshman Greg Van Aken set a season record in the pole vault, making his mark at 3.9 meters. With that height, Van Aken came in seventh place.

The men's outdoor track and field team will be in action again on Monday when it hosts a home meet, beginning with the pole vault and high jump at Alumni Fieldhouse. The remaining events will take place Tuesday on Johnson Track.
