Marquardt Places Fourth in 1500 meters

WAVERLY, Iowa – Charlie Marquardt capped his standout running career with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon in the 1500 meters. Marquardt took the lead early and was setting the pace through 800 meters before crossing the line in a time of 3:49.94.

With today's finish, Marquardt left one final mark on the men's running program as a six-time All-American. He is just the seventh runner on the men's side to earn that many All-American certificates between cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field.

In addition to his fourth place showing today, Marquardt was the runner up in the 2014 distance medley relay, 2016 indoor mile, and the 2015 outdoor 1500 meters. He was also fifth in the 3,000 meters during his junior indoor season and 18th at this past fall's cross country championship.

With a personal best of 3:43.24 set earlier this spring at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier, Marquardt graduates as the sixth fastest runner all-time in division III at the outdoor 1500 meters. He is the 27th All-American in the program's history in the outdoor 1500 meters.
