Men's Outdoor Track & Field Pegged Second in CC Preseason Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team was picked to finish second in the Centennial Conference preseason coaches' poll, with 57 overall voting points and one first place tally, the conference office announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Haverford finished second at the indoor championships earlier this month, and has succcess on the national stage as Dylan Gearinger won the national championship in the indoor 3,000 meters and Greg Morgan was named All-America in the indoor mile run.

With the eye towards outdoor competition, defending champion Johns Hopkins was tabbed as the preseason favorite, picking up 64 total voting points and the remaining nine first place votes. Swarthmore (48 points), Dickinson (41 points), Muhlenberg (31 points), Ursinus (28 points), Gettysburg (22 points), Franklin & Marshall (20 points) and McDaniel (13 points) rounded out the poll in the third through 10th spots in the annual prognostication.

The Fords have finished either first or second at each Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, and last captured the conference outdoor crown in the 2013 season. A year ago, Gearinger won the 10,000 meters while Henry Woods was the conference's 5,000 meter champion. Gearinger, Woods, Greg Morgan (1,500 meters), Graham Peet (steeplechase) and Liam Lynch (400 meters) will all return from All-Conference performances a season ago.

The Fords will open the outdoor season on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener. The three-day 2018 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Ursinus from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6.
