HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's track & field team has been named a 2018-19 All-Academic Team as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This marks the 13th time in the past 14 seasons the Fords have earned this honor since the association combined the indoor and outdoor season into one award.

Haverford finished the 2018-19 academic year with the sixth-highest GPA of any men's team in Division III. To earn the USTFCCCA Academic Team Honor, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 of higher. Leading the way in academic honors is nothing new to the program as Haverford had 22 student-athletes honored on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll during both the outdoor track & field season.

In addition to the team's academic honor, six Fords were named USTFCCCA Scholar Athletes. To qualify for this honor, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30. The student-athlete must also have competed in either the indoor or outdoor NCAA track championships or finished a season ranked in the top 50 nationally in an individual event or top 35 in a relay event. Chris Goings (economics), Ryan Herlihy (computer science), Hiro Kawakatsu (physics), Greg Morgan (computer science), Graham Peet (biology), and Ian Woodhouse (English) each took home this individual scholar athlete honor.

Greg Morgan, Haverford's Varsity Cup recipient, earned scholar athlete status for the third time in his track & field career while also earning that same honor three times during his cross country career. Morgan posted the top qualifying time in the mile and 3,000 meters during the indoor season before winning the 3,000 meter individual national championship. He also posted the fourth-quickest 1,500 meter time and fifth-fastest 5,000 meter time heading into the outdoor track & field championships.

Graham Peet, a Gregory Kannerstein '63 Award recipient, also earned the third scholar athlete status of his track & field career in addition to earning that same award during each of his four cross country seasons. Peet was the sixth-quickest qualifier nationally to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the 10,000 meters and had the 19th-best time in steeplechase where he was a returning third-place finisher in that event from his junior campaign. Peet just missed nationals in the indoor season with the 27th ranked time in the 5,000 meters.

Ryan Herlihy joined his fellow cross country All-Americans from the 2018 team podium finish as a two-time scholar athlete during the track & field season. Herlihy was also a three-time USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete in cross country for a total of five USTFCCCA academic honors throughout his career. He was 23rd nationally in the outdoor 5,000 meters and 24th overall in the 10,000 meters.

Chris Goings, Hiro Kawakatsu, and Ian Woodhouse joined Morgan on the distance medley relay which was ranked 27th in Division III following the indoor track & field season. Each of those three student-athletes earned USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete status for the first time in their respective careers with this announcement.
