Two Event Wins Guide Fords at Widener Invite

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team finished seventh at the Widener Invitational, with a bevy of top finishes dotting the landscape in Chester on a busy Saturday afternoon as the Fords returned to action in earnest for the first time in two weeks. 

Jamie Moreland was the winner in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish in 3:50.65 to lead a field that also included a fourth-place finish from Ryan Kredell (3:53.32) and a seventh-place showing from Reza Eshghi (3:55.87). 

Matt Denton was just over the four-minute mark in 15th (4:00.49), while Jeffrey Allen (4:06.30), Scott Kaiser (4:08.24), Michael Franco (4:10.56), and Matt Katz (4:10.78) all also finished in the top 50. Rounding out the Haverford contingent was Nick Scardigno (4:19.32), William Harris (4:28.93), and Keqing He (5:04.34). 

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Haverford picked up another event crown as Nathan Leighninger deftly guided a field of Haverford entrants in 9:32.93 for first place in the event. Seamus Fraser also impressed with a fourth-place finish (9:53.13) and Luca Ponticello (10:00.33) and Sammy Schindel (10:20.65) also collected top 10 finishes. Seamus Flannery was just outside the top 10 in 12th (10:34.49) to round out the Haverford contingent. 

A large 800 meter grouping was paced by Reed Solomon finishing in 29th (1:58.60) as Caesar Dai crossed in 64th (2:06.74) and Seawon Park was 73rd (2:09.08). Kieran McDonnell crossed in 82nd (2:15.03). 

Among sprinters, Amon-Ra Kamit was 53rd in the 100 meters (12.41) while Boahen Kwakye crossed in 64th (12.89) and Nathan Ma was 75th (16.81). Kwakye paced Haverford in the 200 meters (26.70) for a 91st overall finish and Kevin Villafane was 93rd (27.61). 

The 4x100 meter relay squad of Ravi Eaton, Jacob Foster, Jonathan Hill and Alex Reichard crossed in 44.89 for eighth place overall, scoring a point for Haverford. Foster was Haverford's top finisher in the long jump, crossing in 14th (6 meters or 19 feet, 8.25 inches). 

Ethan Gadra contested the pole vault, finishing fifth with another impressive jump of 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.25 inches). The senior will graduate as Haverford's program record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault. 

Haverford will next be in action with a quick turnaround as track & field hosts its annual Tri-Meet on Monday at Johnson Track. The throwing events will begin in the Featherbed throwing venue at  3:30 p.m. with the first track runners hitting the track at 4:05 p.m.
