Centennial Championships Central

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team opens up 2022 Centennial Conference outdoor championships action on Friday afternoon in Collegeville, as Ursinus hosts the three-day event, with action continuing through Sunday, May 8 at Patterson Field.  Haverford enters the championships with a bevy of projected scorers, with distance events yet again expected to be a strength for the Fords. The program has had multiple individual champions in each edition of the Centennial outdoor championships, and has finished below second place at the Centennial Conference outdoor meet just once.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: FRIDAY
Action begins on Friday with Ethan Gadra representing the Fords in the pole vault. The action gets underway at approximately 1 p.m. as Gadra, the program record holder in the event, enters as the second seed (4.15 meters). Another day one event sees Cyrus Slavin in the hammer throw at approximately 2:30 p.m., as he enteres as the 18th seed (24.3 meters) in that throwing discipline. The 10,000 meter gauntlet then wraps up the day at approximately 5:45 p.m. with Jacob Gaba the top seeded Haverford entrant (6th, 34:17.95) on what should be favorable temperatures for distance racing.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: SATURDAY
Day two is a bigger day of action for Haverford, with the 3,000-meter steeplechase being held at 12 p.m. to begin a long day on the track in what is expected to be misty conditions. That stint features Nathaniel Leighninger entering as the second-seeded runner (9:32.93). The 400-meter prelims at 1:20 p.m. will feature Ravi Eaton entering as the fifth-seeded sprinter (50.92). The 100-meter prelims (1:50 p.m.) feature Aleix Reichard entering as the 12th seed (11.40) and Jonathan Hill (11.48) entering as the 17th seed in addition to Amon-Ra Kamit (12.12)  as the 34th seeded entrant as Haverford will look to steal points in those sprints. The 800 meters (2:20 p.m.) will showcase Jamie Moreland as the second-seeded entrant as he looks to chase down an NCAA qualifying time in the event after establishing a seed time of 1:53.11. The long jump (2:30 p.m.) features Reichard, Eaton, Jacob Foster, and Nathan Ma taking turns in the jumping pit while the 200 meter prelims (3:40 p.m.) feature Hill and Kamit. The 4x800 meter relay wraps up the second day of action at approximately 4:20 p.m.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: SUNDAY
The 4x100 meter relay opens Sunday's action, with the 1,500-meter to follow at 11:20 a.m. as Moreland will try to capture his second event title in as many days while also making a dent on those descending order lists for NCAA qualification. Moreland will be joined in that event by teammates Reza Eshghi, Matthew Denton, Leighninger, Nico Tripeny, Reed Solomon, Jeffrey Allen, Matt Katz, Scott Kaiser, and Michael Franco. The 400-meter finals are slated for 12:40 p.m. ahead of the 100-meter finals at 1 p.m. and the 800 meter finals at 1:20 p.m. The 200-meter finals are slated for 2 p.m. before a large 5,000-meter contingent wraps up day three's individual action.

That grouping hitting the track includes second-seeded Ryan Kredell (14:31.66), fifth-seeded Max Brelig (14:46.32), sixth-seeded Peter LaRochelle (14:48.03), ninth-seeded Aaron Bratt (14:57.69) and 10th-seeded Amos Karlsen (14:58.44) as Haverford has a chance to score some major points in the penultimate event at 2:20 p.m. The final event of the championships is the 4x400 meter relay, with that action concluding things in Collegeville at approximately 3:20 p.m.
