Men's Track & Field Impresses at Ursinus Outdoor Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's indoor track & field team opened the outdoor season on Saturday in Collegeville for the Ursinus College Outdoor Invitational. With the cold and wet conditions, it was more about shaking the rust off than putting in maximum performances.

The highlight of the day came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Three Fords ran faster than 10:30 on the day with Nathaniel Leighninger taking the win in 10:21.10. Sammy Schindel finished in second place, crossing the finish line in 10:25.60 while Seamus Flannery ran 10:28.80 for third. For Flannery, it was a personal best as he bettered his 10:34.49 April of 2022.

Alex Reichard put in a solid performance in the 100-meter dash. The senior ran 11.76 for the fifth fastest qualifying time of prelims but neglected to run in the final.

Jonathan Hill earned a top-five finish after he finished fourth in the 200-meter dash. Hill crossed the finish line in 23.14 and his teammate Ravi Eaton rounded out the top ten by running 23.62.

The throwing events were highlighted by Cyrus Slavin in the hammer throw. Slavin tossed a distance of 35.33 meters (115 feet, 11 inches) to finish seventh. He followed that up with a 12th-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 26.96 meters (88 feet, 5 inches).

Five Fords competed in the 1500-meter run. Sam Diaz was the top finisher of the bunch with a 13th-place finish after crossing the finish line in 4:32.96. Tommaso Wheeler and Seawon Park placed themselves in the top 20 with times of 4:37.68 and 4:43.52 respectively. Kieran McDonnell (23rd), Xingyun Yang (25th), and Devan Abrams (26th) rounded out the performances for the Fords.

The men's track & field team will continue action at the Danny Curran Invitational set for March 31 through April 1. The meet, hosted by Widner in Chester, PA is scheduled to kick things off at 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
