Men's Track & Field Finishes Third At Golden Ram Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team posted a bevy of top performances in a third place overall finish at the Golden Ram Invitational at West Chester, scoring 99 total points on a brisk but seasonable Saturday at the Division II school. 

The Fords went 1-2-3 in the 800 meters, as Jamie Moreland captured the event crown in 1:53.37. The time is the 21st-fastest in Division III so far this season, with weekend results still rolling in. Right behind Moreland was teammate Matthew Denton, as Denton crossed in 1:56.07, a new personal best. 

Reza Eshghi was the third to cross in a personal-best 1:56.56, as Haverford secured a crucial 24 points in the event. Reed Solomon finished just outside the scoring, logging a 11th place finish (2:03.48), while Sam Diaz was 15th (2:06.94) and Seawon Park 20th (2:13.09). 

Haverford also went 1-2-3 in the 1,500 meters, with Nico Tripeny adding the event crown (4:06.08). Micah Lachman notched a 4:07.76, a personal best for second, and Jakob Maiwald was third in 4:07.87, also a new collegiate best mark. Michael Franco finished fifth (4:12.46), while William Harris was ninth (4:18.49). Nick Scardigno (4:19.68), Tommaso Wheeler (4:34.23), Kieran McDonnell (4:46.58), and Deven Abrams (4:53.54) also contested the 1,500 meters on Saturday. 

With a bevy of scorers in those middle distance events, Haverford also added four scorers in the 5,000 meters. Ryan Quenemoen finished in 15:58.58 to take second in the event, with teammates Flyn Meadows (16:16.65), Joseph De Rosa (16:24.91) also logging top five finishes in fourth and fifth, respectively. The eighth place finisher was Rowan Shigeno, as he logged a 17:03.46 to score a point for the Fords.

In early morning steeplechase action, Seamus Flannery notched a second-place performance (10:10.34) ahead of fourth-place teammate Nathaniel Leighninger (10:16.28), and fifth-place Sammy Schindel (10:24.56). 

Jonathan Hill scored for the Fords in the 200 meters, taking seventh (23.05). Nathan Ma (24.73) and Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman (26.52) also finished Top 30 in the event.  Alex Reichard narrowly missed the scoring in the 100 meters (11.43) finishing 11th overall ahead of 18th-place Nathan Ma (11.80) and 21st-place David Cole (12.35).  Caesar Dai (56.52) led a trio in the 400 meters in 20th, with Leo Gordon (56.82) and Matthew Ruiz (1:04.28) also finishing in the top 30. 

Haverford's 4x400 meter relay squad of Denton, Solomon, Meadows, and Hill finished third overall (3:29.80) while the team of Dai, McDonnell, Park, and Diaz was seventh (3:53.99).

In field events, Cyrus Slavin was 11th in the hammer (35.69 meters or 117 feet, 1 inch). The hammer mark is the third-best in Haverford program history. Slavin was 18th in the discus toss (25.96 meters or 85 feet, 2 inches). Juan Miguel Pinto Diaz also logged a program top 10 with his 26.01 meter-hammer toss (85 feet, 4 inches) as that mark is currently ninth in program history. Slavin completed a trio of throws with his scoring performance in the Javelin, clearing 30.2 meters (99 feet, 1 inch) for seventh place overall.

With another big week of action in the rearview, Haverford now has another busy week of competition coming up, with select entrants competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton on Friday evening while a larger grouping is right back at West Chester for the Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday at noon.
