Men's Track & Field Impresses At Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College men's track & field team posted a bevy of personal records and added some program top 10s in a strong showing on the second day of the Widener Invitational. With an eye turned towards conference championship prep, the Fords have to be pleased with the effort entering the final full week of April. 

Nico Tripeny was the runner-up in the 5,000 meters, posting a 14:37.83, establishing a new PR for the senior. Classmate Aaron Bratt was just behind in sixth place, scoring three points for the Fords with a personal-best 14:43.64. 

Miles Colescott was just outside the scoring in the distance, with a 10th place showing in a new personal- best 14:55.73. Jakob Maiwald was the 24th place finisher in a personal-best 15:14.54, while William Harris (15:54.25) was 53rd, also establishing a new PR.  Ryan Quenemoen (16:34.61), Joseph De Rosa (16:34.85), and Rowan Shigeno (17:23.76) also competed in the 5,000 meters on Saturday. In the steeplechase, Nathaniel Leighninger grabbed a third-place finish in 9:46.91 while Sammy Schindel was 13th overall in 10:28. 

Haverford's 4x100 meter relay squad (Alex Reichard, Hill, Ma, Abdalhamid) finished seventh overall in 43.85, a solid performance that narrowly missed a spot on Haverford's all-time top 10 list. 

Matthew Denton had a scoring performance in the 1,500 meters, as he logged a time of 3:56.65, a new personal record for a seventh place finish. Micah Lachman was 19th overall (4:02.80), while Michael Franco (4:03.43) was 21st. Flyn Meadows (4:09.09), Nick Scardigno (4:09.8), Evan Daniels (4:13.22), Seamus Flannery (4:14.31), and Sam Diaz (4:20.78) rounded out the Haverford contingent. 

In the throws, Cyrus Slavin was impressive in the hammer as he finished 19th with a toss of 37.71 meters (123 feet, nine inches) for a new personal record. Slavin also tossed the javelin, with a mark of 29.58 meters (97 feet). The mark is also now the second best in program history as he eclipsed his third-best mark from last week.

Juan Miguel Pinto Diaz also improved on his top 10 mark, posting a 29.8 meter toss (97 feet, nine inches). That mark is now the fourth best in program history. In the shot put, Jonah Levine finished 46th overall with a toss of 8.79 meters (28 feet, 10.25 inches). Amon-Ra Kamit was 50th, clearing 7.61 meters (24 feet, 11.75 meters). 

In the 100 meters, Nathan Ma was 55th in 11.95 while David Cole was 71st (12.36), Amon-Ra Kamit (12.50), and Boahen Kwakye (13.05) were 74th and 85th, respectively in a crowded field of entrants. The 200 meters saw Kinnan Abdalhamid (24 flat) finish 53rd in a new personal best, while Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman also logged a personal best in 25.93 and Kevin Villafane also PR'd in 26.46. 

A big 400-meter contingent was paced by Ravi Eaton, who had a strong tuneup towards his Centennial Conference weekend with a 34th place finish (51.96). Jonathan Hill was just behind in 53.05 for a 44th place finish, while Caesar Dai logged a PR in 55.42 for 53rd. Leo Gordon was 59th (56.54), and Matthew Ruiz was 70th (1:00.83) with each of those marks representing new personal bests. 

Reed Solomon was the top Haverford finisher in the 800 meters on Saturday, crossing in 26th with a time of 1:57.86, a new personal best. Seawon Park finished 73rd in 2:10.16. 

Haverford will now return to action Monday, April 24 for the Haverford Tri-Meet at home on Johnson Track, the first and only home meet of the season. The first event is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
