All-American! Nora Weathers Finishes Sixth at NCAA Championship

CANTON, N.Y. – Nora Weathers ran to All-America accolades Saturday afternoon with a sixth place finish in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Weathers earned her first All-America certificate with a time of 4:30.31, just missing her personal best that she set to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Weathers asserted her position in the top half of the 12 runner field early on as she held a position right around fifth for a majority of the race. She continued to maintain an All-America position all the way to the finish line with a time of 4:30.31, just 13-hundredths of a second off of her own school record. The top eight finishers in the race earned All-America certificates.

Tricia Serres from Luther won the national championship with a time of 4:26.30. Emily Gapinski from St. Thomas (Minn.) ( 4:26.76), Hannah Chappell-Dick from Eastern Mennonite (4:27.25), Maryann Gong from MIT (4:28.58) and Anna Harleet from Williams (4:29.27) were the top five finishers.

The Fords' junior is the third individual to earn All-America honors in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor track & field season on the women's side. Weathers' finish matched the second best placement in program history from Danielle Wolfrom '94, who placed sixth during the 1993 national championship. Weathers' finish in the event was also the best since Meredith Unger's fourth place run during the 1996 national championship.

Weathers becomes the 17th outdoor track & field All-American in program history. Her All-America certificate is the first since Jessie Belden '09 garnered All-America status in both the heptathlon and high jump during her senior campaign.

Saturday's national championship races at the outdoor track & field championship bring an official end to the 2014-15 athletic season for the Haverford athletic department. However, Weathers will soon return with the rest of the fall athletes on campus as the Fords' now-rising senior is also a standout on the cross country and indoor track & field teams.
