BALTIMORE – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team got four scoring performances and sent four more individuals to the finals of their respective events at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday. Heading into the final day of the meet, the Fords are in sixth place, but just one point out of fourth, with a total of 27 points.
Nicole Giannetti recorded the highest scoring run of the day as she placed second in the steeplechase. Already a two-time all-conference performer during the indoor track season, Giannetti will earn second-team All-Centennial Conference accolades with her finish on Saturday. She crossed the line in a time of 11:35.79.
Emily Anderson replicated her third place finish in discus from the 2015 championship on Saturday. Her furthest toss of 34.95 meters will earn her honorable mention All-Centennial Conference recognition for the second time in her track & field career.
Haverford's long jump got a scoring performance from Sophia Nelson as she placed eighth overall with her best leap being marked at 5.13 meters. Elizabeth Reikowski (ninth, 5.03m), Kerry Quigley (12th, 4.89m), and Marisa Antinori (14th, 4.79m) also had strong showings in that event.
The Fords capped the day with a fifth place showing in the 4x800 relay as the team of Sophie Drew, Mariana Ramirez, Amy Zamora, and Katie Sullivan crossed the line with a time of 10:00.28.
Although not scoring on Saturday with the event finals in these races on Sunday, Haverford advanced runners to the finals of the 200 meters, 800 meters, and 100 meter hurdles. Taylor Murphy will represent the Fords in the hurdles and the 200 meters.
The favorite coming into the 100 meter hurdles, Murphy backed that up with the quickest time in qualifying (15.75 seconds) for that event. She was fourth quickest in the trials of the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 26.58 seconds. Tess Oberholtzer, who was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles heats with a time of 16.84 seconds, also made the finals in that event. The defending champion in the 800 meters, Sullivan, was first in those heats on Saturday with a mark of 2:20.60.
Women's track & field will wrap up the outdoor conference championships on Sunday. The final day of competition gets underway at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put and the 4x100 relays.
