Lipman headed back to nationals, teammates could be joining her

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Emily Lipman was just five seconds behind the leader at the NCAA Mideast Regional but her runner-up finish has cemented an individual at-large bid to the NCAA championship race where her team may be running as well after their third place finish in the regional.

Johns Hopkins captured the team title with 109 points followed by runner-up Dickinson with 113 points. Haverford was next with 146 points which gave Centennial Conference teams the top three spots at the regional. The individual title was captured by Lebanon Valley's Jenn Cronin who covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21 minutes, 39.2 seconds.

Lipman, who finished in a time of 21:44.4, is the reigning Centennial champion and last year as a freshman earned an individual bid to the national meet where she finished in 87th place.

The Fords are in a good spot to earn one of the 16 at-large bids given the relative strength of the Region.

If they do go, they'll do so because of an outstanding day by the rest of the Haverford runners.

Liz Zoidis, 27th place, joined Lipman on the All-Mideast Region team. The remaining Fords in scoring places finished within 0.7 seconds of each other. Thirty-eighth place Alice Vienneau clocked a 23:22.9 and was followed by Harper Hubbeling in 39th (23:23.2) and Andrea Tocci in 40th (23:23.6). Tocci was named to the All-Freshmen team in the region.

The national meet will be run next Saturday, Nov. 21, in Cleveland, Ohio.
