PHILADELPHIA – The Haverford College women's cross country team claimed first place with 33 points at the Belmont Classic hosted by Cabrini College Saturday afternoon. The Fords received a strong showing from their five scoring runners who finished in the top-13 spots.
Sara Hess was Haverford's top-finisher, taking third in a time of 20 minutes, 37.66 seconds. Rachael Potter came in eight seconds behind Hess to take fourth place. Caity Tully (21:03.64) and Chelsea Thorsheim (21:06.49) rounded out the Fords' top-10 finishers, coming in sixth and seventh, respectively. Jamie Croucher was the fifth Ford to cross the finish line. She came in 13th in a time of 21:26.43.
Cara Gruth of De Sales University was the top individual-finisher with a time of 20:18.98.
The Fords will be off until Saturday, Oct. 16 when they run at the Princeton Invitational. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
