Women’s cross country takes fourth at pre-regional meet

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team finished fourth place with 102 points at the Carnegie Mellon University Mideast Pre-Regional Race Saturday afternoon. The Fords gained a great advantage by running the same course where the NCAA Mideast Regional will be held Nov. 13.

Although 23rd-ranked Haverford saw three teams below them in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches' Poll finish in the top-three spots, the Fords put their best foot forward. Haverford ran without All-America Emily Lipman and all-region selection Liz Zoidis, but still managed to be just one of two schools to place all-five scoring runners in the top-26.

Erin Seglem was HC's top-finisher, taking 13th in a time of 23 minutes, 32 seconds. Alice Vienneau (23:48) trailed Seglem and finished 17th. The group of Sheera Rosenbaum (24:04), Emily Scott (24:05) and Flora Berklein (24:12) finished 22nd, 24th and 26th, respectively to round of the Fords' scoring.

Oberlin College's Joanna Johnson claimed first place with a time of 21:50. Oberlin also claimed first place with 41 points followed by Case Western University (68) and Grove City College (91).

Haverford will run again Friday at the Brooks-Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The meet gets underway at 1 p.m.
