Morgan leads Haverford women at home invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Mary Morgan led Haverford College's women's cross country team Friday afternoon at the Haverford Invitational, finishing eighth of 77 runners to pace the Fords in the non-scoring race.

Morgan, posting a time of 18 minutes, 42 seconds on the three-mile Alumni course, led a pack of six Fords who finished within 38 seconds of each other. Freshman teammate Charlotte Lellman was on Morgan's heels just two seconds behind and in 10th-place while freshman Kathryn Balmer was 11th with a final time of 18:57.

Senior Kaitlyn Shank crossed the line in 13th (19:07) followed by the twosome of sophomore Molly Quay-de La Vallee (15th, 19:17) and senior Jamie Croucher (16th, 19:20).

Four runners from Villanova University nabbed final places within the first seven finishers. Katherine Klinges (fourth) from Gwynedd Mercy College and Cynthia Adams (sixth) of Lebanon Valley College were the other two collegians in the top 10.

Friday's invitational was the final race of the regular season for the Fords who will travel to Carlisle, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 29 for the Centennial Conference championship race. Following the conference meet, Haverford will then head to Center Valley, Pa., on Nov. 12 for the 2011 NCAA Mideast Regional Championship.
