No. 13 Women's Cross Country Places Second at Dickinson Long Invitational

CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 13 Haverford College women's cross country team put together a strong showing Saturday with a second-place finish in the long race during the Dickinson Invitational. Running the same course that the Fords will see at the Mideast Regional in November, Haverford placed second only to Division I Bucknell in the long race (6K) standings. The Fords did not send any runners to compete in the short race (4K).

Nora Weathers finished third overall to lead the Fords to the finish line Saturday. Her time of 23:09.2 was about five seconds off the pace of Bucknell's Chrissy Bendzinski for second in the individual standings. Grove City College's Emily Rabenold took home the top individual slot in the women's race with a time of 22:31.4.

Using just three scoring runners from each team in the long race, Kelley Riffenburgh and Charlotte Lellman filled those slots for the Fords. Riffenburg placed 16th overall in a time of 23:41.7, while Lellman finished two spots behind her with a time of 23:44.9. Those three scores gave the Fords a team score of 37 for the long race. Haverford was ineligible for the overall team championship since it ran all its competitors in the long race for postseason preparation. The Fords' team score of 37 topped Dickinson by 17 points. Dickinson was ranked No. 10 in the national rankings that came out this past weekend.

Typically a scoring position for the team, Maggie Heffernan (23:46.4) and Katie Sullivan (23:59.1) placed 19th and 24th, respectively, in the individual standings as the team's fourth and fifth overall runners. Sarah Wade (24:35.5) and MaryKate Cavanaugh (24:50.8) placed 48th and 56th overall as the Fords' sixth and seventh runners across the line.

Three other Fords finished in the top 100 of the race which featured 265 finishers as Katherine Greifeld (25:10.9) placed 71st, Molly Allen (25:42.1) placed 85th, and Alison Love (25:42.1) placed 88th. The rest of the Fords finishers included Margaret Duffy (26:55.8), Allison Hacker (28:12.0), Amanda Glavin (28:18.2), Liana Alves (29:36.6) and Rebecca Fisher (32:12.3)

Women's cross country will return home this coming Thursday, September 25 to host the Main Line Invitational. The women's race will get underway at 5 p.m. that day with the men to follow at 5:30 p.m.
