Women's Cross Country Places Second at Mustangs Stampede

OWINGS MILL, Md. – The Haverford College women's cross country team placed second at the Mustang Stampede, scoring 48 points with four runners among the top 13. Johns Hopkins won the event with the top five finishers in the race.

Senior Nora Weathers crossed the finish line in sixth place and as Haverford's top runner (22:47.74) in the 6k event. Sophomore Katie Sullivan had a top-ten finish (eighth) and set a personal record with a 23:05.57. Sophomore Amelia Keyser-Gibson cut 30 seconds off her best 6k time (23:30.86) and placed 12th. SeniorMaggie Heffernan was 13th in the event with a 23:30.86. Sophomore Nicole Giannetti ran to a time of 23:50.27 while sophomore MaryKate Cavanaugh registered a 24:20.82.

Other runners for Haverford in the top 100 include freshman Caroline Henry (24:59.40), freshman Sophia Drew (25:22.58), senior Molly Allen (25:27.99), sophomore Sarah Wade (26:01.61), senior Marie Vastola (26:31.58), freshman Julia Smith (26:37.64), junior Allison Hacker (26:59.79), sophomore Liana Alves (27:19), who set a personal best, freshmanStephanie Lukez (27:28.29), sophomore Alison Love (27:39.69), junior Michaela Novakovic (28:45.93). Freshman Emily Williams ran to a 30:45.62.

Johns Hopkins' Sophia Meehan won the individual title at the Mustang Stampede (22:11.16) by 25 seconds. Meehan also won the Centennial Conference individual title last season. Eastern University was the third place team (112 points), followed by Bryn Mawr (143), Stevenson (159), Catholic (167), Ursinus (189), Alvernia (201), Goucher (235) and Hood (251).

Head coach Fran Rizzo's team will now return home to host the Main Line Invitational on Friday (Sept. 18). The women's race will get underway at 5 p.m. while the men's race will start at 5:30 p.m.
