Women's Cross Country Improves to No. 27 in National Rankings

USTFCCCA Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – A strong performance at the Rowan Inter-Regional over the weekend moved the Haverford College women's cross country team up two spots in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll. Haverford is ranked No. 27 in the latest release with 70 voting points.

The bump up the rankings came after Haverford jumped up a slot to No. 3 in the Mideast Region. The Fords were just edged by Dickinson over the weekend, but did pick up a victory against then-No. 20 Swarthmore to improve their ranking with the postseason looming. Johns Hopkins continues to hold the top spot in the region and the nation. Two teams from the Mideast Regional will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.

Haverford placed fourth overall at Rowan. Nora Weathers' fifth place finish highlighted the Fords' performances as the senior captain turned it a time that cut 12 seconds of her previous best with a mark of 21:29.63. Sophomores Katie Sullivan and Nicole Giannetti also turned in personal best times for their respective careers, while Maggie Heffernan and Amelia Keyser-Gibson rounded out the team's top five finishers.

The final meet of the regular season will come at home as the team takes part in the Haverford Invitational this Friday. The women's race will get underway at 4:30 p.m. and be followed by the men at 5 p.m. The postseason will begin with the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday, October 31.
