Keyser-Gibson Leads Women's Cross Country at NCAA Championship

WINNECONNE, Wis. – Amelia Keyser-Gibson placed 46th overall to lead the Haverford College women's cross country team to 24th place overall team finish at the NCAA Championship. Keyser-Gibson's placement came in a field of 280 entrants.

The Fords scored 530 points for the meet, tying with RIT. However, RIT had a higher placing sixth runner and was awarded the 23rd place finish despite the Fords having a quicker time overall among the top five finishers on both teams. The Fords' average time of 22:39 was the 22nd quickest in the field, matching their national ranking coming into the race.

Keyser-Gibson's run scored 30 points for the team with a career-best time of 21:54.0. Today's mark broke her previous best time set during the Paul Short Run by 31 seconds. Her time was just eight seconds off the mark of All-American status which was given to the top 35 finishers in the field.

Nora Weathers scored 86 points for the Fords with a 125th place showing. She finished in a time of 22:30.8. The trip was the third time that Weathers has qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championship in her career. Katie Sullivan was the third Fords' runner across the line with a time of 22:40.2 Her finish scored 111 points with a 159th place showing in her NCAA debut.

Nicole Giannetti was less than 10 seconds behind the heels of her teammate as the fourth finisher for the team. She scored 134 points with a time of 22:52.3. That time put her 183rd overall in the field. Maggie Heffernan rounded out the top five. She crossed the line in a time of 23:10.8 to score 169 points with a 223rd place finish. MaryKate Cavanaugh (23:46.6) and Sarah Wade (24:55.5) also made their NCAA debuts on Saturday for Haverford as the team's sixth and seventh finishers.

Today's race concludes the 2015 cross country season. Looking forward to next fall, the Fords saw five sophomores make their NCAA debuts in any of the three seasons during Saturday's championship. With that experience on the national stage, Haverford will now turn its attention to the upcoming indoor track & field season.
